Born in England near Durham, Alan attended Ryhope Secondary Modern School (sometimes) His final report stated Alan has a flair for artistic work more than academic. Alan worked in a coal mine for a number of years directly after leaving school but later returned to education earning a place at Sunderland University where he studied Fine Art under the guidance of respected artist Geoff Morton. After leaving Sunderland University in 1995 Alan continued his education at Newcastle College where he studied Photography, earning several Distinctions in the process, leaving Newcastle College in 1997 he returned to Sunderland University and studied Electronic Media Design which he describes as a melting pot for his skills in Fine Art and Photography. Alan believes that in Fine Art you are constantly learning trying to expand refining and pushing at the same time.
